NGC 2244: The Rosette Nebula in Monoceros

Autoguider: SXV autoguiding camera
attached to an 8" LX200 OTA
Exposure: 4 x 20 minutes
Site: Anza Borrego Desert
Temp: 34 degrees; no wind, good seeing.

The open star cluster(NGC 2244) consists
of young stars which recently formed from
the nebula's material, and the brightest of
which make the nebula shine by exciting
its atoms to emit radiation.

The Rosette is 5,500 light years away.
